The Journey to Partna

When myself, John and Hakeem founded this company as Coinprofile in 2018, our initial goal was simple: to help people store all their crypto wallet addresses with a single link (think Linktree for crypto). However, we quickly realised the market for this was quite narrow, so we pivoted to Coinprofile Remittance, enabling global Bitcoin-to-bank transfers in Nigeria.

This pivot was a hit. In just six months, we processed over $1.5 million, a remarkable feat for our small team. Building Coinprofile remittance came with a lot of challenges; there was very limited infrastructure and tools for building and launching a product like that in Africa. This meant that we had to build everything ourselves from scratch. This process was time-consuming and costly, particularly due to funds lost to bugs and errors.

The initial success of Coinprofile garnered attention from startups worldwide, impressed by the seamless experience we offered. They expressed interest in leveraging our infrastructure for their products. This demand highlighted a shared struggle and inspired us to launch Payourse, focusing on helping developers build user-friendly crypto products.

Our journey led to a critical discovery: 80% of our revenue came from B2B clients, despite minimal marketing efforts compared to our consumer product.

With this realisation, it was obvious that we had to realign our focus towards serving businesses, and it made sense to strategically focus our resources towards improving and growing our B2B offerings. Hence a shift from a dual approach of Coinprofile (B2C) and Payourse (B2B) to Partna (Fully B2B), and a focus on building the digital finance tools and infrastructure that make it simple for global businesses to easily access African markets and for African entrepreneurs to flourish globally

Our Growth so far

Since we started this company, we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs. Notably, we joined the Y Combinator's W22 batch and raised $1.4 million, a significant milestone after four years of self-funding. Our current B2B statistics are impressive:

  • Working with over 100 businesses, including Brass, Cenoa, Anthony Azekwoh Studios, Hyperverge, and Onramp Money.

  • Handling over $2 million in transactions monthly.

  • Processing over 10,000 transactions per month.

  • Maintaining a 99% transaction success rate.

  • Supporting the Nigerian Naira (NGN) and 10 cryptocurrencies for our Onramp and Offramp services.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Partna

As we start this exciting new chapter, our vision remains steadfast: to connect global businesses with Africa's dynamic economy and elevate African entrepreneurs on the world stage. Partna is more than just a rebranding; it's a renewed commitment to our core mission: Connect the world to Africa’s vibrant economy.

Our core products, Payment API and B2B Payments and FX, are specifically designed to tackle the unique challenges of the African market. These solutions enable businesses to smoothly operate across borders in both local and international currencies.

What's next for us? We're always working on making our tech even better, support our business partners in new and improved ways, and continually expand and improve our offerings to new regions and markets. Here are a couple of things we’re focusing on:

  • Streamlining our products and processes to ensure better integrations for our customers.

  • Adding more African and global currencies.

  • Focusing on reaching more businesses and entrepreneurs across Africa and globally.

  • Building new partnerships that broaden our service offerings and market reach.

Our vision for Partna is a bridge connecting global businesses to the thriving African market and vice versa. As we step into this new phase, we're not just changing our name; we're redefining what it means to do business in Africa. We're here to make an impact, simplify complexities, and foster growth for businesses at home and abroad.
